Dear Old Roffensian
Please find enclosed the Summer Mailing from the Old Roffensian Society.
Commemoration Day will occur on Saturday September 17th 2011 with the Cathedral Service at 10:00; this year we are looking to build upon the success of the recent charity Cricket fund raising matches and invite all Roffensians and their families to join us at any time during a full day of various traditional and sporting events. We also hope to be joined by a number of former Members of Staff and encourage particularly any ORS who left in 2001, 1991, 1981, 1971 etc to come back.
We are very keen to make the event a complete day out for all, and will be arranging for a Barbecue and drinks to be available on the Paddock throughout the afternoon. If you would like to bring you own picnic and to sit out on the Paddock to watch the sport, please do so. Also, tours of the School led by current day pupils will be available in the morning and afternoon to allow you to re-live memories.
I would also like to advise you that the School has recently announced the retirement of Dr Ian Walker at the end of the 2012 academic School year. He will be replaced by Mr Jeremy Walker MA as Principal with effect from 1st September 2012. Jeremy is currently Headmaster of Berkhamsted Sixth in Hertfordshire and has been on the Senior Management Team at Berkhamsted School for five years. Prior to that he was a Housemaster, Head of Religious Studies and Head of Theory of Knowledge at Ardingly College, West Sussex. His first teaching post was at Bishop Stopford School in Northamptonshire which, like Ardingly and King’s Rochester, is a Woodard School. Jeremy was educated at Sherborne School and Oxford University where he read Theology at Worcester College. He is married to Harriet and they have two children Rupert (8), Poppy (5) and a cocker spaniel called Bramble.
Next year our Dinner will have a theme to celebrate Dr Ian Walker and his twenty six years at KSR; a date for your diaries, the event will be held at the Rochester Corn Exchange on June 29th 2012. An application form for the event is at the bottom of this page.
I hope you are able to join us for any part of the Commemoration Day celebrations. The School and The Society are very keen to make this an enjoyable day for all those attending, so please contact me if we can provide further details or entertainment during the day.
Kindest regards
Mark Snoswell
